I’m pretty fussy when it comes to my skincare in general, but I’m especially picky when it comes to facial oils. For the longest time, I didn’t think they did my combo/dehydrated skin any good – they often felt like they sat *on* my skin rather than absorbing in, which meant they often broke me out in little white spots, plus they all seemed to all smell a little funky too…
But never one to give up on an entire product category (well, almost never, you can read all about my thoughts on sheet masks here) I did some homework and persevered and now I don’t know how I lived without them, because now I know there really is an oil for every skin type. The right oil can give you glow, plump your skin, nourish your skin barrier, improve your skin texture, and hydrate… without making you look like an oil slick.
What Makes It Special:
A quick glance at a bottle of Sunday Riley Juno Oil would make you think it’s a bi-phase product that needs shaking, but it’s actually a clear and purple, glass bottle filled with the most glorious, sunshine yellow oil. It has an extremely subtle scent but that doesn’t come from any synthetically added fragrance. In fact, the only ingredients in the Sunday Riley Juno Oil are the nine cold-pressed, pure plant oils that make up the formulation. These include Blackberry Seed Oil, Blueberry Seed Oil, Chardonnay Grape Seed Oil, Cranberry Seed Oil, Red Raspberry Seed Oil, Wild Carrot Seed Oil, Black Cumin Seed Oil, Broccoli Seed Oil and Meadowfoam Seed Oil. That’s it. There’s no extra preservatives, essential oils or additives, making it a great option if you’re after something with minimal ingredients. That’s not to say that it will suit everyone, some natural ingredients can be triggering to sensitive skin so always do a test patch and opt for a sample where possible.
The nine oils combine to create a skin-soothing blend high in vitamins, essential amino acids and Omegas 3, 6, and 9 to help fortify and restore skin health. Individually, each of the nine plant oils are shown to have a positive effect on the skin, covering everything from supporting elasticity, combatting congestion, defending against premature aging, and even alleviating dehydration, but combined they create a powerhouse blend loaded with Vitamin A, C and E that makes my skin look and feel so much better.
Why I Like It:
The reason I’ve fallen in love with this oil while other oils in the past haven’t worked for me comes down to how quickly the Sunday Riley Juno Oil absorbs into my skin. It gives a great glow without feeling like it’s sitting on top of my skin, it has a very delicate fragrance and doesn’t linger like some of the other oils I’ve tried, and it deeply hydrates without breaking me out.
In a nutshell, when I go to bed with Sunday Riley Juno Oil on, I wake up with softer, more hydrated and radiant looking skin, and you can’t really ask for more than that.
What I Don’t Like About It:
I have to be careful not to overdo this oil, two drops is the perfect amount for me, any more and my skin doesn’t exactly thank me for it. This isn’t a complaint, merely a note if you’re thinking of buying this, or any other oil for that matter because the shelf-life on them isn’t the longest. Ordinarily, a product where a little goes a long way is a great thing, however, oil life expectancy is often a lot shorter than the likes of a serum or a moisturiser purely because oils are harder to keep fresh (especially in ‘clean’, ‘green’ or preservative-free formulations). We’ve all found a bottle of Canola oil forgotten about and buried in the back of the pantry that’s gone ‘rancid’, it’s the same with skincare, although I think the term ‘oxidisation’ is preferred.
For that reason, I would definitely recommend opting for the smaller size bottle to start with. Firstly, to see if it’s a good product fit for you, and secondly to see how quickly you use it up. I’m definitely guilty of having oils on the go in the past and having them go bad before I can get through them.
Application:
The packaging recommends using 2-4 drops but two is more than enough for me. My skin is pretty sensitive to friction, even with a specific massage oil I find I get a much better result from placing a couple of drops into my palm and then repeatedly warming it slightly between my palms and then pressing it into my skin for a moment or two. I just keep warming and pressing and I get the perfect amount of hydration and radiance without the aggravation and redness I’d get from rubbing it in. I also find it absorbs better this way and I tend not to overstimulate my face.
I’m using it most evenings at the moment in place of a nighttime moisturiser, but as the weather warms up, I might cut back to twice a week in favour of a light cream or gel final layer.

Repurchase:
This is the first time I’ve bought the Sunday Riley Juno Oil and I’ve been using this nightly for a couple of months, and I’ve barely made a dent in the bottle. There are so many oils out there to try, and because of their short lifespan I don’t like having more than one open at a time, so I would definitely think about repurchasing this again in the future. But realistically my next oil will probably be a newbie to trial because I’m nuts like that and I want to try everything.
